Bride + Groom | Sandbridge After-Ceremony Photos

I said they were coming and alas, here they are! Ginny and Steve’s post-ceremony beach photos. They had the best of both wedding photo worlds since their ceremony was in a church and the after photos were at the beach. AND they built in time for me to take photos of just the two of them on the beach. Magic!

In case you haven’t figured out by now, my favorite and most creative photographic time comes when I get one on one time with the bride and groom. I encourage all of my couples to build in time after the ceremony and before the reception for photos of just them. I always say these are the photos you’re going to cherish the most – tied with the candid shots of friends and family. These are the ones that get enlarged not just on your walls, but parents and grandparent’s walls!

Also perfect? Ginny’s family rents a beach house in Sandbridge every year for a week and they had it for this week, so we went to the house and beach behind it for their beach photos. The wedding party were troopers – they stayed in motion the entire time we were on the sand with them since the sand was burning their feet!

Here are a few highlights from the beach. I got a little crazy but I can’t help it – there are a lot of fun ones!

Love Ginny’s white on white bridal bouquet.

Love how content Steve looks in this one.

I just have to acknowledge something about this photo. Technically? It has issues. The more photos I take the more I become a stickler for not blowing out whites unless done truly on purpose. But I studied this photo for a long time and decided that the “fatal flaw” of this photo (the back of her skirt is blown out so it’s very light) – is one of the reasons that I love it. The imperfection of the blown out white gives it the vintage feeling that I love.

Ginny gave Steve this watch!

Doesn’t this one feel like it’s from another time?

I was looking around for some texture to add to the ring shots and my awesome assistant found this amazing piece of driftwood. Now I wish I’d have thrown it in the car for future photos!

Fabulous Amy!

More from the family session…

Sometimes it’s about being at the right place at the right time. We started this session to celebrate this little guy’s first birthday at the Japanese Pagoda in Norfolk, only to discover a private wedding going on. So we took a few photos in the neighborhood just next door and then moved on to the Chrysler Museum. There was an event going on there, too. So we finished our session at the bridge in Larchmont/Ghent. We were there at just the right time to have the sun setting behind the bridge and it made for the glowy light I love so much. Here are more sneak peeks:

Such sweethearts! So carefree!

The Stars & Stripes Wedding

There once was a girl who always wanted to get married on July 4. And that girl met a boy whose grandparents were married on July 4. And so, when the time came, that boy and that girl married one another on July 4, 2009, in an intimate ceremony on the beach at Dam Neck Naval Base.

Nikki and Tom’s ceremony included all the key ingredients: beauty, meaning and fun. Nikki’s dress was gorgeous and the men rolled up their pants and got comfortable! I particularly appreciate the way they included Tom’s son by giving him a special gift during the ceremony – shown in the photos below. And yes, Tom even got a small “goose” of Nikki’s tush in while we captured a few photos of the two of them alone together on the beach. I love it when the bride and groom’s personality shows up on “film.”

We were preparing to walk over the dune and head back around sunset and that’s when we spotted a visitor, also seen below. This little guy was not even slightly irritated by our presence. He even stood calmly while I took his photo. One of Nikki’s family members whispered to me that it was a relative who had passed away in recent years who had come to watch over the ceremony and marriage. Married on a special day and celebrated with a special visitor. Two very meaningful ways to begin their lives together. Congratulations to you both!

A 10-Year Vow Renewal at Fort Story in Virginia Beach

I’m still catching up on sneak peeks here. Some family things have come up – a funeral and then my mom went in the hospital in the past week. So for those clients who might be reading this, please know that I will do my best to respond at my normal pace, but things could be a bit slower than normal for a while.

In the meantime, enjoy this quick glimpse into Ed and Michele’s 10-year vow renewal ceremony on the beach at Fort Story in Virginia Beach. I’m lucky enough to work with Ed on a regular basis and admire his knowledge of all things technical/computer/Sharepoint related and his patience(!). He’s the master of cool even with six thousand requests coming at his team on a regular basis! Ed is also a photographer, so it was particularly an honor to be asked to cover their ceremony. Michele is the owner and baker of the divine goodness of One Sweet Day – and I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a wedding cake or event cake.

The evening was clear and the light golden. Fort Story is a beautiful location for weddings, portrait and event sessions. The rocks next to the water provide a nice texture and the beach is much more private, particularly at sunset.

A Family Session in Norfolk: The Brightest Blue Eyes

I’m alive! The lack of blogging is just a symptom of the busy season! At last count, I’d managed to shoot 13 sessions – commercial, wedding, portrait and boudoir! – in 9 days. That’s a record for me, and one I likely won’t repeat again. But even with all the battery charging and card changing, every session was a blast and I wouldn’t miss one! So, onto a “sneak peek” – although the next several blog posts will be more like “after peeks” since the clients have already seen their photos!

I met Scott and Daniele at the Pagoda in Norfolk for their family session with their two energetic and sweet sons. You may remember their fall session – the blue-eyed baby and the leaf studying 2-year old. Here they are a few months later and I’m amazed at how much they’ve grown. But those beautiful, bright blue eyes on both boys remain as fun to photograph as ever!
