Detail Friday: Fall Turned Holiday Inspiration

I’m so ready to put up our Christmas tree. I’ve been forcing myself to buckle down this week and get the real work done so I can start decorating this weekend. Someone told me recently that their goal was to have a Christmas tree in every room – that is also my goal! This year we’ll have two full size Christmas trees for the first time – and then lots of table-top trees. The sooner I can get started working on them the more we can enjoy them.

So enjoy the fall-turned-holiday inspiration for this week’s Detail Friday. And if you’d like, you can download it to make it your screensaver – directions are below the photo!

Amy, thank you for the download! I lost all my pictures on my phone and I was not liking the plain blue background I was stuck with. I downloaded your image and I LOVE it!!! It is beautiful and perfect for the holidays! Thank you!

What a great idea – never thought about using it on a phone. Glad you like it!

Hi,

I loved the photo and have set it as a background on my computer. It looks amazing on the full screen with so many colours.

Detail Friday: Baby white pumpkin

I shot this photo a few years ago and it’s still among one of my favorites because it’s so simple, I adore these little white pumpkins and I absolutely love fall. I was recently asked by Torie Jayne for permission to share the photo on her gorgeous blog and was happy to be part of such a neat site. Be sure to check out her site for inspiration – decorating, photography and lots more!

I look forward to sharing some sneak peeks soon from a Sandbridge wedding and a sweet little newborn, too. I’m running a little blog-behind these days as we had a run of sickness in the Sandoval household this week. Also – don’t forget to vote for the Oliver family for the Parenting Road Trip competition – you can vote every day and they so deserve the opportunity!

Detail Friday: The Girl’s Weekend Table

I haven’t posted any decorating posts in a long time, but I do still love to spend time decorating and updating my home. I recently went to Charlottesville for my annual college Girl’s Weekend – in which a bunch of us who went to JMU together a few years ago (or more) get together and proceed to tell stories on one another, download about our wonderful kids and husbands and sleep more than we normally might.

This year we went back to the Charlottesville downtown mall area. It’s an outdoor “mall” with a private street flanked on both sides by restored buildings full of great stores and places to eat. I absolutely love it. There’s a wonderful consignment store called the Consignment House there and I was dying to get back to it and see what they had this time around. They have an eclectic mix of all types of furniture, paintings and odds and ends.

My house is also a mix of all types of furnishings. I’ve never landed on one particular style that I wanted throughout the house, so I mix all styles – antiques to Pottery Barn to French Provincial! I found this little mid-centuryish oval table and wanted it for my foyer immediately. Of course, measurements from 3 hours away are difficult. So I texted my husband, who texted me the foyer measurements and I knew it would fit. In the car it went. I also love, love decorating for fall, so you can see how I’ve added a few fall details.

Here’s the little guy:

Quick After-Christmas Post

Well, after nearly two full weeks off from the day job and the photography business, can’t believe it’s almost time to head back to the grind. Just wanted to post a few after Christmas photos for 2008. The first few are from our home. Then a quick Olivia shot as we headed off to Nana’s for Christmas dinner. And finally, some shiny “baubles” photographed at my Mom and Dad’s house.

Happy 2009 to you all! Here’s to a wonderful new year!

Mom’s Gorgeous Thanksgiving Day Table

My mom is definitely one of my decorating inspirations. We give her a hard time because she’s been known to set a table two weeks before an event – and has occasionally had the Christmas tree(s) up before Halloween. But the truth is, she is a careful, talented, inspiring decorator. For example, here is the dining room on Thanksgiving Day. Looks like something out of a magazine.

Note the feathers in the centerpiece. A neighbor of my parents goes Pheasant hunting pretty regularly and brings back the meat (nice of him, but I’m a little “eww” on that). This time he also presented her with a bunch of the feathers (also a little eww, but very pretty!). So she used them in her decorating this year. Martha – take that!

She’s also a talented flower arrangement -take note of that gorgeous arrangement. And finally – had to give my pumpkin pie a little spotlight time. It’s a family tradition now that came from a close family friend. And last week, Oprah’s chef made one almost identical to this one – so apparently it’s catching on!
