{Featured Session} Indian River High School Senior Portraits

Meet Emily. Down to earth, obviously drop-dead gorgeous, second in her class at Indian River High School, on the volleyball team and involved in many other things as well. In short? She’s a keeper. :) Seriously – I love high school senior portrait sessions for this very reason, these teens are inspiring (not to be too cheesy, but they really are). ALL of the high school seniors I’ve photographed are kind, beautiful inside and out (I need a new saying for this because I am always saying it, but it’s *true*!), and a blast to work with as well.

Emily’s high school senior portrait session took place at two locations in Virginia Beach – one of which was obviously the beach. When possible and when clients are interested, I love to hit two locations. As you can see, it creates such variety in the photos. Emily also bravely and willingly changed clothes (behind a sheet her mom held up – thank you!) several times for more variety. It CAN be done, even outside! And changing clothes is encouraged – you can go for an informal look (jeans and a t-shirt, etc.) and a more formal look (for girls, maybe a skirt/top or dress and for guys, khakis, etc.). All in all, senior sessions should be about you. They can be longer or shorter (guys, I hear you and you typically don’t want to take photos for long and I get that, too!), and they can be personalized to who you are.

Featured Session: Taylor’s high school senior portrait session

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and photographing two amazing girls named Taylor in the last two weeks. I featured the first Taylor’s session last week and am pleased to feature the second Taylor’s session this week!

This Taylor is a Salem High School senior looking forward to going to school next year in Colorado. She is a beautiful, vibrant young woman who talked about her love for her family and brought tons of energy to her session. As I mentioned in a previous post, Taylor’s father passed away last year and she brought his guitar and hat to the session to remember him. She also changed clothes several times, so we got a lot of fun looks to mix it up. Taylor’s cousin Sam also came along and was a huge help! She held things, carried things and held up the reflector for me several times. And when a friend called in need of a good conversation in light of a recent heartbreak? These girls kept her going with humor, great advice and solid support. It reminded me of how important great friendships are for us girls!

I know you’ll enjoy Taylor’s slideshow – if you’d like the photos to move a little faster just click on the thumbnails! (P.S. This isn’t close to all of her final photos, just some of the best ones!)

Find out how you can help someone win a free mini portrait session!

Are you on Facebook? If so, now is the time to “like” (remember when it was “fan”!?) my Facebook fan page! It’s here – http://www.facebook.com/amysandovalphotography

Why now? I’m at a little over 500 fans and when I get to 600 fans I am giving away a free mini portrait session to a deserving person or family.  The faster I get to 600 fans the faster someone wins! If everyone who subscribes to this blog via email, RSS, etc. “liked” me on Facebook we’d be there in no time – it’s easy!

Do you know someone who deserves this mini session? I’ve had some beautiful nominations and I will continue to take nominations until I reach 600 fans. If you’d like to nominate someone, please email me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com – or if it’s easier, click on “Contact” at the top of this page and send me a note that way.

I’ll tell you later this week about the wonderful winner of the mini session that I gave away when I hit 500 fans. And will I give away another one at 700 fans? Just wait and see!

(And one more from Taylor’s high school senior session just for fun!)

Remembering her dad

Taylor’s father past away last year and she brought his guitar and Navy hat to her high school senior portrait session. The addition of these two things made the session even more meaningful and I know she will cherish the fact that she brought his memory to this special milestone for many years to come.

So touching! Soo love these images!

If Ladybugs are good luck?

If ladybugs are good luck, then this field is the best of luck. It flows with ladybugs (and other assorted bugs but that’s what Off! is for) and it is full of little secrets – beautiful light, hidden spots, lots of different types of grasses to pose in, and beautiful golden light at sunset. What more could you ask for from a field? I can’t wait to tell you more about this Taylor (yes, two high school seniors in a row with that wonderful name). For now, here are a few sneak peeks – and more to come soon!
