More Photos from the “Hanna” Wedding

Now that I’ve had more time to go through the photos from this beautiful wedding at Bay Creek – that as you may remember was shot the day Tropical Storm Hanna came through – I wanted to share more of them. I am a sucker for the details – beautiful dresses, the rings and the flowers – the way they come together to round out the story of the day. I love Rebecca’s dress – the details of the pleating and the beadwork. And those buttons down her back – tricky but elegant!

I’m glad we had a few moments to grab a few photos of her in her dress before heading down the aisle. And I love the photos of the bride and groom embracing after what I know what an unpredictable and exciting day! The last couple of photos are some of my favorite – the maid-of-honor, a.k.a. the bride’s sister – had both the bride and groom in tears with her funny and touching toast. And check out the fabulous moves on the dance floor. Guests were grooving to music courtesy of Trevor from DJ on the Side Entertainment.

The Debut of the 2008 Holiday Cards…Just in Time for Halloween!

Not yet Halloween, but I already have clients who have their holiday cards in hand!

November 9 is the last session that will guarantee holiday delivery of prints, cards and goodies, so now is the time that most clients will be thinking about cards. For those I photograph in October, you can order cards when you complete your session order. For any clients I’ve photographed this year, if you’d like to order cards using photos from your session, give me a call or drop me an email and we’ll put something together!

I have several new designs available this year, in addition to designs available in previous years. You can check out all of the holiday card designs by going to www.amysandovalphotography.com and clicking on the “Seasons Greetings” gallery – there are 20 designs total. All are shown as 5×7 flat photo cards – but press-printed folded cards are available in many of these designs as well. Ask for details!

All designs are customizable – you can customize colors, fonts and the message.

Here are the new designs for 2008 – I love the vintage feeling to them.

Not a Sneak Peek Bridal Post!

This session started many years ago – when I met a wonderful girl back in sixth grade! Fast forward…a few years and she recommended me for her sister’s bridal session. What an honor! They grew up near the Thoroughgood House and big sister had her session there a few years ago, so it was the perfect choice for Corinne’s session last weekend.

It was a gorgeous setting – the historical home is just the beginning. There are beautiful gardens in the back and a great, tree-lined street in the front – where Corinne used to rollerskate as a child. So of course we had to take a few fun photos of her in the street! Corinne’s classic, beautiful dress was perfect with the gardens in the background, and I love the ethereal quality of the sun setting behind her in the first couple of photos.

Since she’s getting married next month, I made these photos available to Corinne earlier this week. But I didn’t want to miss out on the opportunity to share them with you! This is a beautiful location for a variety of portrait sessions – and brides in particular will love the variety of backgrounds to choose from.

And don’t worry…I did Corinne’s engagement session earlier this summer and have been assured that her fiance will not be checking out these photos before the big day.

So pretty. I just love the look and feel of this session. Her gown is so stunning as well, works perfectly with the background.

How to Shoot a Wedding in a Tropical Storm

Saturday proved to be quite the adventure. A quick trip to the Eastern Shore to shoot a wedding at Bay Creek turned into an overnight adventure thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna. Here’s how it went:

1. Head across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel on Saturday morning at 6:15 a.m. to avoid the worst of the winds. The last place one wants to be during 45 mph sustained winds? Quite possibly, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel!

2. Meet one of your best guy friends in sixth grade – introduce him to his future wife at your wedding (where you are marrying the husband he introduced you to) – then ask his mom and step-dad if you can borrow their Bay Creek condo on the Eastern Shore so you will have somewhere to hang during the storm. (Did you catch all that?!) (Thanks Dan and Coletta!)

3. Head over to shoot the wedding in lots and lots of wind. But no rain – that came about five minutes after I arrived!

4. Watch with teary eyes (along with the rest of the wedding participants) as the sun beams in through the windows on to the bride as she finishes her walk down the aisle to meet her groom. It really was such a special moment.

Here are a few photos from R and K’s wedding – more to follow soon! Love the first one – we had one heck of a sunset – what a surprise considering the weather all day!

[...] How to Shoot a Wedding in a Tropical Storm [...]

Greetings from El Paso!

I admit it, I’m not actually in El Paso. We visited my sister in El Paso at the end of August and it’s taken a while to get the photos downloaded. But I had to share some of them – the landscape is so different from the Hampton Roads area. It’s got a definite unique beauty – desert browns and brilliant blue skies.

Interestingly enough, they’ve had a ton of rain in recent weeks – so instead of desert heat, it was cloudy and about 70 degrees most of the days we were there. And it rained nearly every day though not for long. As a result of all the rain, the mountains – which are normally brown and sandy looking – were a deep, lush green reminding me of photos I’ve seen of the Hawaiian islands.

Here’s a shot of the green mountains – taken at the base where my brother-in-law serves as an Army Chaplain:

Here are several views from my sister’s backyard. They have so many Humminbirds that the birds literally fight with one another at the feeder! Here’s one little guy who seemed to be giving me the eye – “What are you lookin’ at,” he’s asking!

I loved the way this plant was waving in the wind right before one of their brief rainstorms.

We took a drive on a scenic highway and stopped at an overlook. I got sidetracked by this huge cactus that had withstood many individuals carving their names and love notes into its leaves.

And last but not least, my sister’s adorable cat, Bella.
