Availability Update

Much to my surprise, the slow season has been in full swing! I wanted to provide an availability update since I am limiting the amount of sessions I book per month and hate to turn folks away:

February – 1 session left

March – Booked, if you would like newborn photos, give me a call and I will try to work you in – and if you’re a current client with a Baby’s First Year session due in March, you’re covered!

Other months throughout the year are filling up very quickly this year because I’m booking a lot of small weddings and those are booked well in advance of when portrait sessions are typically scheduled.

For those of you who know you want a portrait session this year during a specific month – if you can, give me a heads up so I can block off time that month for you. This applies to all my “regulars” too! We can block the month and then pick a weekend when the month gets closer.

I’m grateful to be staying busy in these economically challenging times. I also want to thank my clients for keeping me in business with your amazing word-of-mouth referrals. I have not done any paid advertising in over a year and know that a good 50% of my new clients (if not more!) are being referred by previous clients.

My clients rock!!

Memories of New Orleans: A Slideshow

For many photographers, January is the month to breathe deeply and relax a bit after the busy season. When a friend suggested a weekend getaway to New Orleans, I couldn’t pass it up. It was the perfect time – post-holidays, post portrait and wedding season rush – and more importantly, I knew it would be warmer down there than it is here in Hampton Roads in January!

We took off (on U.S. Air) a bit nervously on the day of the “Miracle on the Hudson” flight and touched down in New Orleans around 12 a.m. local time. We took advantage of the fact that the city is in full swing all night and we hit Bourbon Street. I thought I was prepared, but alas, I was not! It was color and life in all its glory. The weekend was a rare combination of party and history, ghosts of a city that is recovering and truly recovered in many ways. We set out on foot and saw much of the French Quarter. My only regret is that we did not have time to tour any of the beautiful cemeteries.

I’m using my new slideshow software to share the trip with you. I’m looking forward to using this for client work this year. Enjoy!

Love your blog…visit often but haven’t commented yet!

I see this type of slideshow often and love the quality of it…is it a software that you were able to purchase and have on your computer or something you do online?

New Orleans looks like fun!

Oh man, these make me miss home. I love that city and these pictures are great. Thanks for helping me remember the good times there.

Looking Back on a Mini-Session

Couldn’t let this adorable mini-session go unblogged. We squeezed this one in before Christmas and between the colorful park, the beautiful sunset colors and the girls winter gear, it was just the perfect combination. I have fond memories of shooting the younger sister’s newborn session on New Year’s Day 2008. She was already running when we did this session in November. Mom has definitely has her hands full!

My favorite outtake from the session is also below – when baby sister playfully grabbed her big sister’s hat right off her head. And the last two are proof positive that she was a girl on the move – and that the light was amazing!

Quick After-Christmas Post

Well, after nearly two full weeks off from the day job and the photography business, can’t believe it’s almost time to head back to the grind. Just wanted to post a few after Christmas photos for 2008. The first few are from our home. Then a quick Olivia shot as we headed off to Nana’s for Christmas dinner. And finally, some shiny “baubles” photographed at my Mom and Dad’s house.

Happy 2009 to you all! Here’s to a wonderful new year!
