Remembering a Warm Winter Day

Took this a couple of weeks ago when Olivia and I hit the field for that fun session mentioned below. Now that it’s gotten cold again, in what I hope is the final attempt at winter, it’s nice to look back on this one and remember that warm day. I’m definitely looking forward to Spring!

That said, stay tuned for lots of March previews – starting this weekend I’ll be shooting portraits and weddings throughout the month.

Sneak Preview: Session with a 2-month-old Cutie

I met this fun family back in October for a maternity/family session. For this session, we focused on their newest addition – a beautiful 2-month-old baby girl with the best head of hair I’ve seen on just about anyone and the amazing blue eyes of her older brother! She slept through a few beauty shots and then she was ready to party with the rest of the family. I also got to photograph four generations of vibrant, wonderful women on mom’s side. (Saving those for the final reveal to the clients!)

Enjoy your sneak peek and I will have your online gallery ready this week!

The Great Field Experiment

One of the reasons I love the Hampton Roads area is because we have these random Spring-like days in the middle of February. They always come at just the right time, when it feels like winter may never end. So yesterday, Olivia and I headed out to a field not far from the house with one of my newly recovered chairs and we did a fun experimental session. I think we both have spring fever and just getting outside sure hit the spot. Here are a few from our fun afternoon. Here’s to more spring weather!

Baby’s First Year: The Three Month Old Session

I enjoyed my annual time off at the holidays, but am glad to be getting back in the swing of things again. Not too long ago, I photographed a newborn session with this little guy and his parents. Time flies and suddenly it’s time for his 3-month session!

This animated little guy has the most expressive eyes…and a real love affair with his hand! Notice how he’s giving his hand a real stare down in some of the sneak preview photos below! As is so often the case at this age, we all sang, made faces and generally overstimulated the little guy looking for the great giggles that come with babyhood. He was perfectly content but we weren’t getting those all-important big smiles – although he did give wonderful eye contact to the camera for a lot of the shots!

As I began to pack up my gear, he hadn’t given us a whole lot of big smiles. Luckily, I’ve learned never to put the camera away – I’ve learned the hard way that babies and children have a sixth sense and they’ll give their absolute cutest faces as soon as the camera is off and put away. So when mom started rocking him on her legs and out popped the smiles – I grabbed the  camera, hit the floor and began snapping away. Of course some of my favorites came from that portion of the session – look at those great smiles!

This session also had a happy ending. The little guy went right to sleep afterwards, much to the surprise of his parents. It’s often a side benefit of having a session with the little ones, we tire them out!
