Family Portrait Session on a Warm, Warm Day!

I met this beautiful family on Sunday afternoon – which was crazy-hot for a summer day, much less a Sunday in April. We dodged the full sun as much as we could, but I must admit, I really enjoyed the opportunity to shoot in a ton of gorgeous sunlight. (Until the end when I was about to overheat!) The three kids were a pleasure to photograph and oh so patient with us as we arranged and re-arranged the family set-ups!

I snapped a few with just mom and dad, too, and love the romantic looks they gave one another. And check out the stunning final three shots – not just well behaved kiddos, but beautiful ones, too! Treva - your online gallery will be ready soon – thank you for the opportunity to photograph all of you!

When It’s Fate: Meet Kirstynn Evans

My clients will tell you that they receive their online galleries on time, and often early…but at curious times… 1 a.m. and later is still considered office hours around here. I’m blessed to have not one but two jobs that I actually like. But to keep things cranking along, I pull some late nights and do a lot of multitasking.

In this day and age, it’s hard to complain about having a job that keeps you busy and makes you really happy – much less two of them. Since I can’t part with one or the other, it was time to find a better way.

And so I set out in search of that certain someone…an assistant with a passion for photography and a heart for people. Word spread and I began to talk to some good candidates. A couple of weeks into the search, I received an email titled “A Raving Fan” that not only made my day, but kicked off what felt like fate.

Kirstynn didn’t know I was looking for an assistant – and yet, she was looking for the very type of opportunity I was hoping to share. Here is someone who is passionate about photography and ready to learn more, has worked with a photographer before,  and knows a little something-something about photography herself – and she falls right into my email box.

We met for coffee and a chat and I knew instantly that Kirstynn is the real deal. She’s friendly, vivacious and eager to learn. She also loves to cook (I hope it rubs off on me!) and keeps a fabulous blog – an all-around catch! She’s also brand new to the area – so there’s a freshness in her eyes that I look forward to experiencing. I’m a life-long resident and seeing the area from her perspective will be revitalizing. I have much to learn from her and can’t wait to start working with her.

That I get to share Kirstynn with my clients is a bonus in itself. She’ll be coming along for some of my sessions and will help keep things running smoothly in the background as well. Welcome, Kirstynn – I look forward to working with you and learning together. Thank you for finding me!

Session with a 1-Year-Old (& His Family!)

I could go on and on about Karen, Chad and their two beautiful children. I’ve had the opportunity to really get to know them this year – from Karen’s maternity session through this final session in their baby plan. It’s hard to believe that maternity baby is now a year old. This little guy has been a real blessing to watch – he’s one of the most laid-back babies/toddlers I’ve seen in a long time. In fact, I’m pretty sure that after his newborn session – in which he did put up a bit of a fuss – I don’t believe I’ve heard him cry once!

Here’s their last session in the baby plan – which typically includes a session at 3 months, 6 months, 9 months and 1 year. They’ve found unique ways to make each session very personal to their family – from a session at the family Christmas tree to this session, which included time at a nearby park and their little red wagon. I’m so glad we got to get outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather.

Amy,

What a cute family, and a great session. The first photo is my favorite! That lil’ guy is like… “Tadaaaaa… I’m the tall one now!” I love it! Great work with what seems to be a very happy family!

Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer: Mark & Julia’s Wedding at the Lesner Inn

I knew from the moment that Julia shared her story with me about how she met and fell in love with Mark that their wedding would be special. Both Mark and Julia are counselor educators and professors and they even wrote a book together called The Psychology of Courage

They held their ceremony and reception at the Lesner Inn in Virginia Beach, in a brightly-lit, gorgeous room with one entire wall of windows overlooking the water. From a sand ceremony that included their grown children, to their first dance, during which Mark was overheard singing the words to Julia, their day was personal and deeply meaningful.

My absolute favorite photos from the wedding are of the way the two of them light up when they look at one another. Here are some sneak peeks from their joyful wedding.
