Detail Friday: The bride’s little secret & special sand ceremony

For this, the second edition of detail Friday, I wanted to share two ideas that I really like. First, the bride tied her grandparents’ wedding bands into her bouquet for a beautiful “something old.” And they also had a beautiful sand ceremony – which included the groom’s son to join them all as a family. Several of my wedding clients this year have included this tradition – and using the colored sand creates a keepsake to display afterwards.

Expect the Unexpected: The Easiest Twin Photo Session. Ever!

Last weekend I headed out to photograph twin baby girls. I mentally prepared myself for twice the excitement of a newborn session with one baby. A little more crying, a little more adventure, lots of cuteness of course. When I arrived, these beautiful girls were wide awake and perfectly content sitting in their little bouncy seats just watching the world walk by. I took it as a good sign. Their parents – who are honestly some of the most devoted, caring parents I’ve met in a long, long time – mentioned that the girls didn’t cry unless they truly needed something.

They were so right. The girls were awake for almost all of their 3-hour session and there was no crying. That’s right - no crying. Well, one of them fussed for a moment and then that was it. So no crying and no pee or poo on the photographer or the parents for the naked portion of the session. Truly a photography miracle! I think mom is getting credit back for the many weeks she spent on bedrest to ensure they came into the world a little later than nature might have wanted! Big brother was also very excited to be photographed with his new little sisters, but I’ll keep those photos tucked out of public eyes for now as I think they may eventually be in a birth announcement.

Here are a few from their quiet, calm and relaxed shoot!

It’s Detail Friday!

I’m hoping to get more going on the blog - and so I’m instituting “Detail Friday!”

First, here is Kristin’s beautiful ring and flowers from last Saturday’s wedding at the Norfolk Pagoda. Her heart-shaped diamond ring slides into the Irish Claddagh-style band. Her beautiful bouquet includes Fuji Mums.

Wedding at the Pagoda and Oriental Garden in Norfolk

Kristin and Jonathan are good people – I know this because they’re Red Sox Fans. :) Before they met me for their wedding consultation, Jonathan changed his t-shirt, which had a funny Red Sox saying on it -he wasn’t sure it would go over well. It certainly would have!

Their intimate wedding was held at the beautiful public Pagoda and Oriental Garden in Norfolk with a meal afterwards at a sushi restaurant – the theme was complete! The details of the ceremony were very special. Kristin’s two sweet and gorgeous children were included in the ceremony during a rose exchange.

And the officient told a beautiful story about how from this point forward in their marriage they should find a spot within their yard to grow a rose bush. At times when one was angry or upset, they should leave a rose at the foot of the rose bush as a sign for the other one that no matter what they still loved them. What an amazing idea. Love it.

Without further ado, here are a few highlights from their wedding. And stay tuned: tomorrow I’ll have another post with some of the details from their wedding.

Love these first two – they feel so retro – Jonathan is dashing in his uniform!

The pictures you’ve posted are gorgeous!! I can’t wait to see all of them! :)

Sometimes they just don’t sleep!

I’ve neglected posting several sneak peeks recently due to time – so this is one of those “post peeks.” :) Had to share this sweet little one – he’s the prime example of the fact that some little ones…don’t sleep! Sure, it looks like he’s sleeping in some of these, but mostly he’s yawning. And that was the theme for the day – he yawned his way through more than three hours of us cuddling, changing and feeding him, but alas, there was no long-term sleep to be had. Some of the best newborn photos come when the little guys are wide awake – so I will often stand by and wait to see what comes. In this case we got some adorable facial expressions and yes, the biggest yawns!

Look at how beautiful he is! His sweet face shines and he has a very proud big brother, too. You can see his birth announcement – a custom announcement designed with some photos from his session. I offer custom announcements on photographic paper as well as press-printed announcements and it’s such a time saver – all the important details are there – mail them and you’re done!
