Remembering November

I think I’m finally embracing all that is my new iMac! All 27 inches of it. It’s been fun transferring 2 terabytes of data from the PC/external drives/Drobo to the new computer, but alas, I am almost there! So I can start getting back to fun things again.

Here are a few from a November walk I took with Olivia. It was chilly and overcast, but not nearly as cold as the weather in recent days. We had such a nice time just chatting and spending time together. I’m always happily surprised at how simple it is to make a child happy – they really just love having our undivided attention. And these days that’s not an easy thing to give.

If I don’t blog again before Christmas, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. Here’s to a fantastic 2010!

Why in the WORLD would you clutter your new computer with 2TB of stuff? Isn’t that the point of external hard drives? lol.

Oh yeah, all the data was on back-up drives, but they all had to be reformatted for the Mac – so there was lots of data moving going on while I reformatted drives. It was funnn!

It’s Back! Detail Friday: Flowers

Had to bring what is likely to be the last edition of Detail Friday for 2009 back…. here are two of my favorite detail shots from an October wedding. The bride’s bouquet – love the combination of flowers. Sophisticated but sweet elegance.

Curves Boudoir Post-peek: She Wears His Shirt Well

Many of my boudoir clients bring their husband’s shirt for one of their wardrobe changes. Sometimes it’s his uniform shirt and sometimes it’s his favorite comfy shirt. And sometimes it’s his clean, white, stiffly starched button-down shirt. Believe me, just about any of his shirts can be magically transformed into something to remember when you’re wearing it.

Here’s one client in her husband’s comfy shirt – how stunning is she? (Click link for photos.)

Curves Boudoir Post Peek: Take 2

People who know me well often ask, “How’d you get into shooting boudoir?”

Well, it’s a national trend, as I’ve mentioned before, and one that I immediately wanted to try. And one that I’ve really embraced. Not only do I love working with women of all ages, shapes and sizes and giving them the opportunity to see how truly beautiful they are, but I love the creative freedom that comes with this style of photography.

For me, boudoir isn’t just about sex appeal, it’s also about creating a feeling. I read a ton of fashion magazines for photographic inspiration. I apply post-processing techniques to many of the photos to give them the fashion-magazine look. Vintage processing, contrasty black and white photos and special attention to retouching make these photos more than just beauty shots.

Tonight I’ll share one photo that I fell in love with the moment I saw it pop up on my computer screen while downloading. I love the way her legs are bent – the way the animal-print on the shoe peeks out ever so slightly behind one foot. This reminds me of the Tyra Banks “broken down doll” look she so often talks about on America’s Next Top Model! And the shot inspired me to apply a  black and white process that really makes the grain in the photo sing – and there’s a hint of “vanilla” added to this black and white, so it’s not as dark as a traditional black and white.

Stay tuned for more sneak peeks this week – including some fab faces. It’s gonna be fun!

I Really enjoyed your portfolio. Your experience is evident through your work. I love how you’ve found these women in their elements and put them into a very retro feel. The grain and contrast enhancements compliment the models greatly. Kudos!
