Curves Boudoir: From a Client’s Point of View

After my Curves Boudoir session with Kimberly in January she approached me about writing a testimonial specifically for the blog to let other clients know how much she enjoyed her session. I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get it on the blog!

Let me tell you a little bit about Kimberly. She is a successful business woman who is also a gorgeous, confident woman. She came to this session with specific ideas and we had a great time making them come to life. I love her confidence and how it radiates from her images. The session was fun and full of life, just like Kimberly!

I’ll let you in on a little secret – some of my most comfortable, confident clients are not the 20-somethings that you might expect – they are the gorgeous women who have a little more life experience under their belt. :) Their bodies are beautiful and they maintain their fab figures with hard work and dedication (yep, most of them are runners!).  Many of my clients are moms and sometimes grandmothers and they’re hot! My favorite part is that they embrace their beauty and they do not sweat every imperfection. I’ve often thought that men would be in trouble if we women had the confidence of our 30s and 40s in our teenage to 20-something years. Wouldn’t that change things??!

Interested in a session? I just opened up a June 12 marathon date and am now scheduling sessions for that day. Email me if you’d like to reserve or get more details – amy@amysandovalphotography.com

I’m honored that Kimberly wanted to share her experience and here are her words and some photos from her beautiful session.

I want to enthusiastically encourage any woman who might be looking for a great gift (even if it’s for herself) – let Amy take your picture.  Gosh, me in lingerie (and sometimes less) AND a record of it had me a bit nervous, but if you are even a teensy bit adventurous and not opposed to stretching your comfort zone this is definitely the experience.  This was soooo much fun!

From the beginning of my interaction with Amy she was sweet, helpful and professional.  She and her staff helped me to feel very comfortable; I felt like a supermodel if only for few hours. As a Type-A kind of girl, it was difficult to relinquish control of my hair and makeup and show up “nude”, but Krystal was professional and consulted with me about what and how I normally wore my hair and makeup and simply over-emphasized “ME” for the photos…..looking in the mirror I wasn’t sure (as I don’t wear a ton of makeup), but when the photos arrived….WOW….I really didn’t think I could ever look so beautiful…girlfriends have commented that the photos look like something out of Vogue…tasteful, artsy and very sexy.

This was far and away a wonderfully fun experience and would highly recommend Amy Sandoval….oh, and so would my boyfriend!!!  ;-)

Curves Boudoir: Virginia Beach Boudoir Session Featured

From my Curves Boudoir sessions in January – this wonderful client has given me permission to share some of her photos. I’m so appreciative to clients who allow me to share photos from their sessions – it provides a lot of insight for other women thinking about booking a session.

The next sessions will be held in April 9 and 10 – I have a waiting list and hope to open up another spot or two for that weekend. But if you need a session for another time, let me know. I am now scheduling individual sessions as needed – those sessions still include professional hair/makeup. For more info, see the Curves Boudoir website at http://curvesboudoir.squarespace.com – it includes full pricing, a great FAQ about how sessions work and what to expect as well as lots more photos. Be sure to click on the “Click to continue reading” link to see this session’s featured photos.

What is Boudoir Photography? Isn’t it Kinda Tacky?

There’s going to be a little skin in this entry – so get ready. :)

The new boudoir photography niche is spreading like wildfire. It was the cover story of Professional Photography Magazine last month and amazing photographers like the Boudoir Divas are ushering in a new generation of tasteful, modern boudoir. But just because photographers know what the “next generation” of boudoir looks like, doesn’t mean our clients know exactly what we’re talking about!

So I thought I’d share a few more photos from the last Curves Boudoir by Amy Sandoval Photography sessions to illustrate a little more about my particular take on this growing trend.

What types of women want boudoir sessions? All types, from all walks of life.

Many of them are getting married and want photos for their husbands-to-be. One of my favorite ideas is presenting them to the groom either the night before the wedding or the night of the wedding. Many of my clients are married to men who are serving overseas and they want to send them a little something special. And some of my clients simply want to preserve this moment in their lives for themselves – which I highly recommend. If I had known in my 20s what I know now in my 30s – well, I’d have spent less time worrying about having the perfect body and appreciated the fact that things were still “in place.” :)

So, Is boudoir tacky? You’ve probably seen more examples of what it shouldn’t be than what it could be! I think a lot of what we think of as boudoir is “old school” and also very Playboy magazine. And not to poo poo on those things – but what I am going for is more fashion-magazine inspired. Think Vogue, for example – vintage-inspired coloring and moody, grainy black and white photos. Yes, it’s about showing some skin – but it’s also about how the skin is shown – I love creating artsy and sexy shots!

And how do these sessions work? First, privacy is of the utmost importance. It’s you and me and the camera for your session – which is hidden from others who may be getting their hair and makeup done while your session goes on. The sessions are low-key and fun and I help guide poses, so don’t feel like you have to show up with modeling experience! I have a pose guide that truly brings out the best in every shape and size.

The next Curves Boudoir sessions will be held in Virginia Beach on November 7. Lots more details are available online here and I’m also happy to answer any additional questions.  UPDATE: Sessions for November 6/7 are now sold out. I will be scheduling more sessions in January 2010 in time to receive photos for Valentine’s Day. Please contact me if you’d like to be on the email list to receive more info about the January 2010 sessions when they are scheduled!

Curves Boudoir sessions are relaxed, fun and feminine. The focus is on turning your best features into art – and not on having the perfect body. These sessions are sexy but not Playboy – sensual is not always what’s seen but sometimes what’s hinted at! Whether you want a session for fun or to share as a gift to him, you will be glad you captured these memories.

Your comfort is the most important part of the Curves session. Clients are treated with the utmost respect. I want you to feel beautiful – prior to the session, we’ll go over your ideas and questions – and you’ll tell me a little about what you think are your best features.

Curves Boudoir sessions include my time with you, the hair/makeup artist’s time with you and my time artistically processing the photos to make them absolutely gorgeous. I take checks and Visa/MasterCard (you will need to call me to give me a credit card number).

Sessions include:
• Includes 2 hours, 1 for hair/makeup and 1 for your session
• Includes hair/makeup done by professional hair/makeup artist
• Includes brag book with 24 4×6 images from your session
• Includes online gallery of all your final artistically retouched photos (color and black/white choices)
• Includes option to order additional prints and goodies directly from the printer and shipped to you (the ultimate in privacy – no taking your prints to that one hour photo lab where anyone can see them!)

Ready to Book a Session?
The next boudoir marathon will be Saturday, November 7, in Virginia Beach. To book a session, you will be asked to sign a brief contract and pay a deposit of $125 to book the session. The remaining balance is due no later than November 5. (I take credit cards and checks.)

Call me at 757.406.6036 or email me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com and I will work with you to book a session.

Online galleries will be ready no later than November 30 to be sure you have plenty of time to receive albums and gifts in time for Christmas – and in plenty of time for Valentine’s Day, too!

Sessions sell out very quickly and make great gifts for Christmas and beyond, so don’t wait!
