{Featured Session} Indian River High School Senior Portraits

Meet Emily. Down to earth, obviously drop-dead gorgeous, second in her class at Indian River High School, on the volleyball team and involved in many other things as well. In short? She’s a keeper. :) Seriously – I love high school senior portrait sessions for this very reason, these teens are inspiring (not to be too cheesy, but they really are). ALL of the high school seniors I’ve photographed are kind, beautiful inside and out (I need a new saying for this because I am always saying it, but it’s *true*!), and a blast to work with as well.

Emily’s high school senior portrait session took place at two locations in Virginia Beach – one of which was obviously the beach. When possible and when clients are interested, I love to hit two locations. As you can see, it creates such variety in the photos. Emily also bravely and willingly changed clothes (behind a sheet her mom held up – thank you!) several times for more variety. It CAN be done, even outside! And changing clothes is encouraged – you can go for an informal look (jeans and a t-shirt, etc.) and a more formal look (for girls, maybe a skirt/top or dress and for guys, khakis, etc.). All in all, senior sessions should be about you. They can be longer or shorter (guys, I hear you and you typically don’t want to take photos for long and I get that, too!), and they can be personalized to who you are.

500th Fan Mini Session Giveaway! Maternity Session in Virginia Beach

One of the goals on my business list for 2010 is to give away some of my session time. I decided recently to give away a mini session when I reached 500 fans on Facebook and again when I reach 600 fans. On the night I was closing in on 500 fans, Jessica left me a message saying she couldn’t schedule the maternity shoot she’d been planning on because she had some unexpected expenses come up as a result of a move coming up. I emailed her that night and awarded her the 500th fan mini session winner!

I photographed an engagement session with Jessica and her fiance Jake a few months ago. Jake and Jessica came to Hampton Roads via the Navy. They met through mutual friends but Jake moved to Illinois to pursue his degree not long into their dating. Their relationship developed “pretty much long distance,” says Jessica. After about a year of the long distance relationship, Jake moved to Virginia where he completed his required internship.

They found out they were pregnant in the middle of Jake’s move and not long afterward he proposed. “Of course I said yes!” Jessica says. They are now preparing to move to Kansas, where they will raise their son near friends and family. Jake is going to grad school to pursue a career in federal law enforcement and Jessica will be fortunate to be a stay at home mom and complete her degree in business administration. For all of their service to our country and Jake’s continued service in the law enforcement field, I was grateful to provide Jessica with a maternity mini session in celebrating the milestone of reaching 500 fans.

Thank you, too, to all of you who “stalk” my blog, Fan my Facebook page and offer so much support to me. I so appreciate my clients, family and friendsĀ  – thank you!

Know someone deserving of a mini session? Nominate them by emailing me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com – and “Like” the Facebook page so we’ll get to 600 as fast as we can!

Here’s a sneak peek at Jessica’s session – more photos hitting the blog from her session soon! (She takes the pregnant glow to radiant!)

That Pregnant Glow Maternity Portrait Session

Maternity portrait sessions are filled with a lot of fun anticipation – I often see the nursery and get to take in all of the preparations being made for baby. This one was extra special because in another couple of months I will get to meet their new arrival at a newborn photography session. This will be one lucky baby – mom and dad are both so excited and mom definitely has that pregnant glow about her. I’m glad we were able to take photos both indoors and out so we caught the golden hour and I was able to play with the light. And, take note, aren’t her boots hot?!
