Class of 2012 Senior Portrait Photographer: Meet Faith

Sometimes a session gets postponed because of weather – it happens. But when a session gets postponed three times and over three months a lot changes! Faith wanted a winter, woodsy look originally but as her high school senior portrait session got postponed, spring came and instead we got to shoot a gorgeous spring session, complete with a dreamy spring forest. Faith is graduating this year from Currituck High School and plans on pursuing a degree in nursing. She’s been visiting colleges and I know she’s going to find success wherever she lands!

I’m currently booking high school senior portrait sessions for both Class of 2012 grads and Class of 2013 grads. This is a great time of year for high school senior photo sessions – the weather is still beautiful and the humidity hasn’t crept in yet. There are so many pretty spots in Hampton Roads – popular spots and hidden spots, too. :) I love planning out sessions that really reflect the personality and style of each high school senior client. You can see more of my senior portrait sessions on my website!

P.S. I’m in such a time-warp that I originally put “Class of 2011″ on Faith’s post and photos. Hello it’s 2012! So please forgive me but yes, it’s 2012!

Virginia Beach Senior Portrait Photographer: Ellie’s First Peek

I got a call from the sweetest mom ever last week. She told me her family was coming to Virginia Beach on vacation from Nebraska and her daughter loved my work and wanted me to shoot her high school senior portrait session. It still is such a thrill for me to work with every client who comes my way – but a client from Nebraska? Not something I get every day! Ellie wanted some of her photos taken on the beach in Virginia Beach, since that’s not something they get to experience on a regular basis. And mom wanted a few that looked a little more like home. So I drove around the oceanfront area of Virginia Beach to find that combination for Ellie’s session. I found what I anticipate will become another favorite spot for future sessions. It’s a quaint green nook with brick-paved sidewalks and sun filtering between the trees and blooming flowers. And it’s steps away from the ocean – which is the most unexpected part about it.

Ellie’s mom and sister loved it and for me the evening was a rediscovery of how lucky we are to have so many pretty spots in this area. It’s easy to take for granted that we have a lot of scenery here that others don’t have – between the ocean, bay, rivers and our hidden gems and my favorite fields, too, of course!

While I continue working on Ellie’s session, I wanted to post a couple of sneak peeks for her. I know the family will soon be making their long trek back to Nebraska and these will tide them over for a bit. :) Ellie, you are so beautiful – your smile lights up the place! And I truly enjoyed meeting the entire family. Enjoy this first peek into your session!

Senior Picture Photographer in Hampton Roads: Now’s a Great Time to Book Your Senior Session!

High School senior pictures were among my favorite sessions to shoot last year. We found some beautiful locations to shoot the senior pictures and each of my clients brought their individual tastes to make the sessions unique and personal. I look forward to raising that bar even higher this year. I know it’s cold and stark outside, but it really won’t be long until we’re into spring and warmer weather. Now’s a great time to get your high school senior pictures booked with Amy Sandoval Photography!

This is great timing for Class of 2011 seniors who didn’t get their senior portraits in the fall. OR for Class of 2012 seniors who want to get a jump start on their year. I am also reserving spots now for summer/fall 2011, and I am now offering a few weekday/evening spots as well as weekend portrait sessions.

What’s unique about my senior photo package? You get all final, high-resolution digital images with your session. There’s no picking and choosing from one or two poses, no need to upgrade to an expensive print package and no worries about not having enough prints to share with extended family. You also get access to a professional photo lab to order professional quality prints at reasonable prices. Yep, it’s true.

And you know what else? This way, you get your digital files to share on Facebook, add to your senior announcements and blog, Tweet, share, etc. The sky is the limit. Great photos, unique backdrops, creative light and processing and you get all the digital files, so you control your own high school senior photo destiny!

Virginia Beach Senior Portrait Photographer: Meet Brent

High school senior portrait photography sessions are definitely among my favorite to shoot. I have yet to meet a senior portrait client who didn’t give me hope for this generation. They’ve all been fun, polite and well on their way to success. The very same can be said for Brent. He’s a kicker for Salem High School’s football team in Virginia Beach and plays several other sports. He’s funny, modest and wanted to climb a tree for this session, but his girlfriend and I talked him out of it! We didn’t want any bones getting broken. I look forward to hearing about the great things he will accomplish in the coming years. And remember, Brent, if you have to choose between Radford University and James Madison University (my husband went to Radford and I went to JMU!), goooo Dukes of JMU!

Here are some sneak peeks from his session – loved the backdrop for a male senior photo session – just felt more masculine and Brent rocked the location.

Brent brought his girlfriend, Kathryn. They are so cute together I had to get a few photos of them hugging on one another.

I have a hard time deciding between the normal processing and vintage – so for this one I did both. Couldn’t decide which to share, so, what the heck, sharing them both!

I’ve photographed several sessions at this location and I love how different it looks with each season and different light. The clouds behind Brent are so pretty.

Okay – Brent has some funny faces and I’d always press the shutter just a moment after he’d make one – but the images on the left happened at the moment I pressed the shutter. He was “flirtin” with his girlfriend. A moment later I got the more serious shot!

The clouds were blocking a lot of the sun but the sun did manage to push through for a few shots. I remember saying to Brent, “Stand here, now, quick, the sun just came out!”

And a couple more of Brent and Kathryn. Seriously adorable together. Thank you for your help Katherine!

{‘Tis the Season} Gift the Gift of a Portrait Session

Have you started holiday shopping yet? I know it seems early, but you know how it goes. First it’s Halloween and then all holidays break loose! I’ve started making lists and doing a little shopping here and there.

Are there people on your list who are harder to shop for? Have they had a family portrait taken lately? So many of us put other things first, and don’t make the time to capture life as it’s flying by. A family portrait, couple’s portrait, high school senior session or any other type of portrait session makes a great Christmas gift. I offer gift certificates for any amount towards a portrait session. Some gift givers choose to provide an entire portrait session amount, while others provide money towards a session.

One option is for each family member to contribute to either one gift certificate or for multiple family members to purchase several gift certificates of any amount towards a session – this can add up quickly if you have a large family! All gift certificates are custom-created and come with detailed information on how to schedule a session, what’s involved and more information about my work. Interested? Email me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com or use the handy Contact form at the top of this blog!

Here’s an example of a gift certificate I recently created for a client who is giving her daughter a family session for Christmas.
