This beautiful mom-to-be met me at my home and we used my new studio to take the first photos of her maternity session. Although I love shooting outdoors and on-location, I’ve wanted a space for a while to give me some flexibility, particularly for newborn and maternity/smaller family session. She wanted some belly shots, for example, and was able to get those spots in this space, with plenty of privacy and no worries about flashing anyone outside!
I’ve outfitted this space in whites and creams and lots of texture. And you know that light is a big part of my style, so I’m thrilled that it has beautiful light. We shot these photos around 7 p.m. with no additional light source other than natural light from windows! I love what we captured and I so look forward to using this room for future sessions. I’ll get more shots of it soon to post as well, so you can see even more of it!
This client is lucky to be smaller than many at her point in her pregnancy, so I saw her push out her bump a few times! She’s so calm and serene and she definitely has the gorgeous pregnancy glow. After the home-studio portion of her maternity session, we jumped in my car and drove about 5 minutes down the street to a little space around the corner for the outdoor part of the session. We shot at an area I drive past all the time but hadn’t thought about using for a backdrop until recently. And I’m so glad we did. I love, love the light, the green spaces, funky trees and the flowers. We took my new studio chair – a “ghost chair” and used it in a few shots.
Here are some peeks into her session – starting with the studio shots and moving to the outdoor shots. She picked out the absolute cutest clothes to show off her cute baby belly!

Now that I have more time to photograph portrait sessions, I’ve been thinking about what I enjoy photographing the most. It’s hard to play favorites, since pretty much any opportunity to get behind the camera is a good one. But I do love maternity sessions and I’ve been wanting to offer more portrait sessions in my favorite spring fields this year, and the combination of a beautiful “bump” with a spring landscape seems just right.
