New Beginning: The launch of my redesigned portfolio site!

Have you been to www.amysandovalphotography.com lately? I know that many of you read my blog from RSS readers or come directly here, so you may not have noticed something very exciting (at least for me!) that happened recently on my portfolio site. I relaunched it several weeks ago with a completely new design and a fresh vibe. Updated photos, new navigation and more galleries hopefully makes it easier to get where clients want to go. And if they want to stay and hang out a while, they have lots of additional sections to explore! I’ve included several new sections, too: “What’s in my bag” for those of you interested in the equipment I use and “So you want to be a better photographer” for those who have new dSLRs or who are just looking to up their photographic game. Both sections answer the most common questions that people send me via email.

I built the site with Showit – and I can’t sing their praises enough – but of course that should surprise no one who’s heard anything about them. From the easy interface and beautiful starter templates to the support and pricing, they can’t be beat. Building a new site was an exercise in remembering sessions I’ve worked on in the last year or so and thinking about which photos best represent my style and brand. It was also an opportunity to hopefully make it easier for clients to find pricing, samples of just the types of images they want as well as contacting me with ease. Let me know what you think of the new look.

And if you’re a photographer and you’ve been thinking about Showit and wonder if it’s worth all of the hype? It TOTALLY is!

Here’s a shot of the new site:

Happy New Year & A Little Something for You

Have you been to pinterest.com? If not, go! No really, I’ll wait.

It’s the amazing site where you “pin” photos of things that inspire you – home decorating, do it yourself projects, photography, fashion, recipes, things to buy – it’s all there. And it’s beautiful. If you’d like an invitation, please email me (amy@ amysandovalphotography.com – take out the space). I have a few invitations left. Otherwise you can request to join – it takes a while for them to send invitations.

One of the things I love most is all of the wonderful quotes – new fonts, great designs, etc. and these inspirational quotes. Many of the items can be purchased if you click on the item to learn more about where it was originally posted. Also – many of them are on etsy.com. I decided to take a stab at creating my own little inspirational sign for a new project I’m working on (which was also inspired by pinterest.com – will share more details when I get hung up!). I made it in Photoshop and printed it at my photo lab. I just got it in the mail and it’s wonderful. I actually made two copies – one for my office.

Here is the original 11×14 file - it’s a jpg – so just click on it and right-click to save it to your computer. Then have it printed as an 11×14 photo.

{‘Tis the Season} Gift the Gift of a Portrait Session

Have you started holiday shopping yet? I know it seems early, but you know how it goes. First it’s Halloween and then all holidays break loose! I’ve started making lists and doing a little shopping here and there.

Are there people on your list who are harder to shop for? Have they had a family portrait taken lately? So many of us put other things first, and don’t make the time to capture life as it’s flying by. A family portrait, couple’s portrait, high school senior session or any other type of portrait session makes a great Christmas gift. I offer gift certificates for any amount towards a portrait session. Some gift givers choose to provide an entire portrait session amount, while others provide money towards a session.

One option is for each family member to contribute to either one gift certificate or for multiple family members to purchase several gift certificates of any amount towards a session – this can add up quickly if you have a large family! All gift certificates are custom-created and come with detailed information on how to schedule a session, what’s involved and more information about my work. Interested? Email me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com or use the handy Contact form at the top of this blog!

Here’s an example of a gift certificate I recently created for a client who is giving her daughter a family session for Christmas.
