Availability/How to Schedule a Session
Interested in scheduling a session? Great! The best way to get started is to use my session contact form.

I photograph portrait sessions primarily on the weekends and typically about an hour before sunset for the most beautiful light.

I am often booked two to three months in advance.

Style
I specialize in natural-light, modern portrait photography – with the occasional vintage twist!

My goal is to take organic, natural and beautiful portraits. This means some of your photos are posed and some are unposed – some of my favorite photos of my daughter are not formal photos but the ones where I capture her being her in a moment. I shoot in a laid-back, photojournalistic style at the location of your choice to create fresh and honest portraits.

My photo style is modern, fresh and bright. It is also inspired by vintage tones, backlighting and the playful use of light. Versatility is the key – with both traditional and contemporary captures recorded during every session.

One of the things my clients also love is being able to personalize their final purchases. I specialize in custom albums, holiday cards, birth announcements, displays and much more.  I love working with clients to make their final print vision come to life!

Session Details

How long does a session last?
Most sessions last from an hour to two hours. I don’t rush sessions – some naturally last longer than others. Newborn session tend to last about two to three hours because we break for diaper changes, feedings and to settle baby if they wake. Sessions with young children typically last no longer than an hour because of course they get tired more quickly.

Can I share photo ideas I have in mind?
Yes, absolutely. I will do a mini interview with you before your session and ask about your likes and dislikes and any posing ideas you have. I will accommodate your preferences whenever possible, and I also look for creative opportunities with each session.

Where are the photos taken?
I work with primarily natural light. This means most sessions are outdoors. Nicely lit homes work, too, but if I can get outside I prefer it. I’ve found over the years that the backdrop is one of the key things in making your session creatively different and beautiful. I am constantly driving around looking for new spaces to shoot in and I will work with you to find what’s best for your session. I always schedule time before our session to study the light and pick the best opportunities for great shots – particularly at new locations or in your home.

Newborn sessions are now exclusively offered in my Home Studio. I have a supply of blankets, baskets and much more to pose baby in and I also use items from your home in the newborn sessions. Family heirloom items are priceless and really special for these sessions – so think about what you may have to use. I offer a complete guide to preparing for newborn sessions on my client site for those interested in booking a newborn session. You can email me at amy@amysandovalphotography.com for more info.

Do I need to participate in the session even if I’m not in the photos?
Parents are welcome to observe and help when needed. But keep in mind that depending on the age of the child, sometimes they get shy in front of their parents with the photographer and will be more apt to let their hair down if the parents observe or quietly step away. You know your child best — feel free to give me any insight into their little personality as we prepare for the session.
